This episode changes everything, I had the theory that a "Shadow Shin" wasn't going to replicate his heterochromia but boy... they can copy everything which means no failsafe for Shin in that aspect, also my theory that he was a half shadow is debunked as the other Shadows called him a looper, which adds even more mystery to this whole story.

Also, Shadow Mio talked about a "Mother"... So Shadow Mio might not be the leader of the Shadows everyone was assuming but just a Shadow with high hierarchy perhaps, the fact that Shadow Ushio might be a good Shadow was also a huge revelation, which means she is either a very rare anomaly or few Shadows can actually be friendly to humans.

However, one the things that made things really dark is that Shadows are aware that Shin can go back in time, which means they're not gonna kill him... which also means that he's gonna start to kill himself in order to go back, guess Subaru won't be alone in that trend for much longer, he really needs some company considering his life at RE:Zero!

Other important thing is that at least Shadows can be killed, guess not even them can survive a shotgun to the head!

My theory is that the shadows goals is to take over the island and revive "mother". I dont know what mother is but the island culture and traditions are a big hint, for instance the islanders hold a annual ritual to gather what comes ashore and burn it (maybe to kill invading aliens or discard foreign invaders), but the burn part had me thinking, is it the only way to kill the copies/shadows is by fire? Can they regenerate limbs (they can make duplicates easily, why not regeneration)?. So much theories, not enough evidence to work with, well i guess we have to wait for next week

What if Shadow Ushio is the one who died? Note that Beach Ushio only seems to remember she felt pain, and even if that really was a memory of herself dying, why should a Shadow have it? They probably can't make post mortem copies, that would be too convenient.
On the other hand, the other Shadows also seem to think Beach Ushio is the traitor but maybe there is no traitor or it's someone else.

look at Mio's shadow, it glitches when it get damage, maybe the shadow's body will banish if they die

That shadow of shin also glitches maybe because they need to kill the original so that they won't glitch

If they finish her off, we will see that soon. That would be a problem for my theory but we have seen those glitches appear in various situations before, so they might be something else. Most of all, it looks like a virtual reality accommodating some unexpected changes, but I hope that it's not this trope.

I actually found out another way to tell it. Ushio's body is cremated after the funeral which mean there's suppose to be ashes that send to the family, if the corpse is just the shadow then it wil not produce ashes but if it is the real body then it will.

Didn't they take the cop's appearance after killing him in Episode 2? Unless we just assume he was simply at death's door during that moment, I'd say Shadows are in fact perfectly capable of post-mortem copies.

After rewatching the scene: You seem to be true, but I still have some reservations (a series like this is always deceptive). Just before Shadow Mio created Shadow Cop, there indeed was the same sound and light as when they "photograph" people but it happened offscreen. Couldn't it be that there are the same effects when they recall the copy from their memory?
In any case, Beach Ushio remembering pain still doesn't prove that she's a Shadow.

what if you consider shadows have two identities one personal identity that brings them together and the identity of the one they copy. its possible that the traitor killed her own identity and that is why ushio shadow doesn't realize or identify as a shadow but instead herself. i have a few variations but my main thought is based on the obvservations on the interactions of the shadows. they aren't mindless drones that copy they have intelligence they have a goal they have their own identity then never truely commit to the identity they copy while they can copy every aspect they never truely commit the identity to their own. that is except Ushio's shadow.
